Short Story

THE DARK SIDE OF MY DREAM

As I stood gazing at the dilapidated house, I shivered. The cold air enveloped my whole body. The stepping stones leading up in the house were cracked. Weeds poked out from those cracks, vines formed a twisted maze upon the side of the house and their tentacles reached the roof. The house walls showed black neglect. The corners of the doors were covered with cobwebs, tiny black spiders threading towards their prey.

I began to enter that creepy place. Every room has creaking doors and that is not fancy! Windows shuttered and rattling on the outside, the scrap of a chair was moving. Every corner of the house had holes where big rats squeaking in a vividly loud noise. The house had this old people smell, phantom perfume, cologne or something. It also has this rusty or metallic smell. I walked by and roamed around until I reached the kitchen, “Holy crap!” I screamed with fears buried into my body. I saw a dead old woman lying on the floor without any clothes on. Her body had a lot of scars and stitches. The wounds were freshly cut. I knelt down and took the cover on her face. I turned out to shock. Her face was so pale, her eyes were stitched with thick wires, her teeth were taken out of her mouth, her nose was busted, and it stunk. Her left arm and right legs were separated from its body. I got out the kitchen and tears fell out through my eyes. I felt downfall about the situation. I had in my thoughts, what if I would be the next victim?

I turned my head and I saw a big door. It was the biggest door in the house so I entered with no hesitations. I entered the room and it was dark. Shadows seemed to swirl around my feet, sucking me in. In a burst of panic, I fumbled for a light switch. I flipped up and down frantically, but the room remains immersed in darkness. Fear settled in and deep down knowing I’m not alone in the dark.

I felt someone was brushing my back. I turned, but I saw no one. Outside I can hear the wind howling, and it almost sounded laughter to my panicked mind. I’m being drawn in, drowned in slumbering evil, there is no escape. I stayed at the corner of the room. I sat down on the floor and closed my eyes for a few seconds to clear my mind. The place that I’m into was the only room that had no lights. I gazed at the bottom part of the door where light only appears in that area. I saw someone passed by. I felt fear, I can’t move my feet, I felt so numb. I covered my mouth and remained silent. But I was creating a sound that they may notice that I am scared. The only thing that kept me warm was my breath. I placed my right ear on the door and eagerly listened to the things that happened outside the room I’m into. When I heard no sound I directly went out of the room and hoped that I could escape alive. I flustered and I could hardly breathe. For goodness sake! The only way out through that house was to pass the kitchen again. In short, I need to go back the way I came in. I walked slowly without a sound but, holy crap! It was all a trap! A big nasty hand began to hold my ankle and dragged me so hard. I shouted for help yet there is no one there to save me. They brought me into a dark place and someone pulled the clothes on my chest and threw me hard at the sturdy furniture--- I fainted.

I opened my eyes and—my arms and legs were all tied up with big ropes. It was dark and I shouted “Who are you?! What do you want from me?!” Someone turned on the lights “Oh, my!” I whispered. They were numerous. They all looked distorted; they had these strange weapons in killing people in their hands. The old woman that I saw in the kitchen was there. Her soul was feeling me, passing to and fro and whispered “The only way to your escape is to sell your soul to them.”

“What? Sold my soul to whom?”
“To Satan and his angels. They haunt people who praise and believe God. I am an angel of God sent here to guide you. Don’t lose faith and fight for your life. You have a family waiting for you,” and then he disappeared.
“Wait, I thought you are here to save me!” I struggled.
“The only person who can save you is yourself. Don’t let the devils take your soul.” –the angel vanished. I’m so clueless that I can’t even get a hint of what the angel was talking about. The devils were pulling my feet and trying to cut it out away from my body. I fought back and kicked their faces. I was so scared. I closed my eyes and thought of what the angel had said to me and –yes! “It is my faith! My faith in God is the key to all of this!” I said to myself. I prayed the Lord’s Prayer then suddenly a bright light just appeared --I gasped and I woke up.

My dream seemed real and until now I can’t get over this horrifying experience. For me I did not save myself. It was God who saved me. Without my faith in him I cannot get out of that nightmare.
